Many beneficiaries find New Zealand’s welfare system hard to understand. It can be confusing and difficult to understand how to ask for the support they need.

One of the ways Wellington Catholic Social Services works with beneficiaries to support communities is through working in partnership with benefit advocates and local communities to hold Benefit Impacts.

For a week, we work alongside trained benefit advocates to invite people receiving benefits to come and check their entitlements. People may find there is additional assistance available to them for unexpected or ongoing costs, such as disability or medical costs.

This year, Wellington Catholic Social Services is working in partnership with the Hutt Valley Benefit Education Service Trust, local Catholic parishes and other church and community organisations to run three Benefit Impacts:

9-12 March: Levin Benefit Impact, St Joseph’s church, 56 Weraroa Rd, Levin

13-16 April: Ōtaki Benefit Impact, Ōtaki Memorial Hall, Main Rd, Ōtaki

24 and 26 May: Benefit Impact for the Deaf Community, St Joseph’s Church, 56 Weraroa Rd, Levin (sign language interpreters will be available)

All welcome.
