Making submissions
The Archdiocese of Wellington comments on issues of poverty and injustice in the political arena. Some recent submissions we have made:
- 2017 Community sponsorship of refugees submission: The Archdiocese of Wellington supports the introduction of a community sponsorship pilot. Key principles that we wish to see reflected in the policy include additionality, partnership, inclusivity and affordability.
- 2017 Budget policy statement: Catholic social services told the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee on behalf of the Archdiocese of Wellington that rebuilding Kaikōura following the November 2016 earthquakes is not only about rebuilding infrastructure but ensuring the wider wellbeing of the community.
- 2016 Social Security Rewrite Bill: Representatives of Wellington Catholic social services, Hutt Balley Benefit Education Service Trust and Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand spoke to the Social Security Select Committee last year about difficulties beneficiaries had accessing their full entitlements from Work and Income, arising from the experience of co-hosting the Upper Hutt Benefit Impact at St Joseph’s church.
